Help Prevent Vehicle Burglaries

The Ripon Police Department wants to assist local citizens in our continued efforts to help prevent vehicle burglaries. In several recent thefts the suspects have gained entry by opening unlocked doors when they see valuables in plain sight. In some past thefts, suspect are breaking windows when they see valuables in plain sight.

Ripon residents can take a few basic steps to help prevent vehicle burglaries.

Remove all valuables (firearms, purse, backpack, computer, loose change, sports bags, cell phone etc.) from the vehicle each time you park. Hiding the items under a seat or under clothing doesn’t work.

Lock the doors and Activate your vehicle alarm

Do not leave tools, air compressors, bicycles or other valuables unsecured in the bed of your truck

If possible, lock your vehicle inside your garage

Vehicle burglaries occur during all hours of the day and night. Please do your part to help keep Ripon safe from crimes of opportunity. Remove all valuables from your vehicle each and every time you park it.

The purse, backpack, computer, wallet or sports bag you left in the car is an inviting target for thieves looking to steal your property and your identity.

On Wednesday, May 11th at 7:00 pm a community meeting will be held at the police department to discuss city wide issues, including vehicle burglaries. For more information about this meeting, contact Sgt. Danny Sauer at 599-0244.
