Newberry Springs man shot by unknown suspect. Detectives asking for assistance in identifying suspect

DATE/TIME: April 14, 2016, at 2:47 am

INCIDENT: PC245 Assault with Deadly Weapon

LOCATION: 48000 block of Memorial Drive in Newberry Springs, Ca.

SUSPECT: Unknown Hispanic male

VICTIM: Frank Schwab of Newberry Springs

SUMMARY: On Thursday, April 14, 2016, sheriff’s dispatch received a report of an adult male who was shot in Newberry Springs. The caller said the victim had been transported to Barstow Community Hospital via privately owned vehicle.

Investigators spoke with the victim, who was identified as Frank Schwab, a resident of Newberry Springs. Schwab said he was at the Mobil Gas Station in Newberry Springs when an unknown Hispanic male called out to him from behind, and then shot him. Schwab could provide no description of the Hispanic male.

Responding deputies secured the area and started an investigation. The unknown Hispanic male has not been identified. Schwab received a non-life threatening injury to the right side consistent with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) and is expected to survive. The incident is currently under investigation by detectives.
