Hazmat Technician training

The Local Emergency Planning Committee sponsored a Hazardous Materials Technician level course and the firefighters completed their training on Sunday.  Twenty firefighters representing 4 fire departments from Chesterfield - Union Twp, Richland Twp, Adams Twp, and City of Anderson. These 4 departments support and comprise jointly our Madison County Hazardous Materials Team.

The training was conducted by STEPP, which is a Madison County owned and operated company.  The total cost was $11,000 which covered the cost of the instructor, lab materials, and text books.   The training was paid for by the Local Emergency Planning Committee with funds provided by local business and industry who use or store chemicals in their facility.

The twenty students attended 80 hours of class which was conducted on 5 consecutive weekends.  This past Sunday, students completed hands on scenario based training as well as completing their state practical exam.

This training will help ensure the Madison County Hazmat Team is prepared and ready to respond in the event of a chemical incident.
