Press Release: Explorer Competition

Details:
On April 15 - 18, 2016, 10 members of the Corcoran Police Department Explorer Program attended the Central Valley Law Enforcement Explorer Competition held in Porterville, California. The competition was attended by Explorer posts from 23 law enforcement agencies and hosted by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office.
The competition allows the explorers to take part in different types of simulated scenarios and incidents that a police officer would encounter in the line of duty. The scenarios and incidents the
explorers compete in include crime scene investigation, felony traffic stop, DUI stop, domestic violence, suspicious person call and air soft gun shooting skills. They also compete in team activity physical competitions such as obstacle courses and tug of war. The Explorer Advisors also competed against each other in the obstacle course portion of the competition.
The CPD explorers received a 2nd place trophy in the 5 person tug of war and a 4th place trophy in the crime scene investigation scenario. Officer Patrick Jurdon received a 2nd place trophy for the Explorer Advisor obstacle course.
The Explorer program is a youth organization affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America that gives teenagers a chance to train with peace officers, learning the skills necessary to serve in law enforcement. Like the Scouts, it teaches kids the importance of hard work and community service. If anybody is interested in joining the CPD Police Explorer program please contact Sgt. Pedro Castro phone number (559) 992-5151 ext. 500.
