Advisory

Honoring Autism Awareness Month with an Autism Awareness Community Fun Day Saturday, April 23, 2016

April commemorates Autism Awareness month. On Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Compton Sheriff’s Station Youth Activities League (YAL) in collaboration with Heart 2 Heart 4 You, Inc. (www.heart2heart4you.org) and Hub City Autism Network (HubCAN) would like to bring autism awareness and resources to the Compton community through a Community Fun Day.

The event will be held at the Compton Sheriff’s Station Youth Activities League (YAL) located at 700 North Alameda Street, Compton.

HubCAN’s mission is to help autistic children adapt to the society around them as well as build relationships with others. Consuelo Evans is the founder of HubCAN (www.hubcan.com ) which was formed in 2009 out of a community need.  Mrs. Evans is the mother of an autistic son who experienced the lack of education, inclusion, resources, adaptive activities, and acceptance in the community.

Compton Sheriff’s Station through the Compton YAL (www.comptonyal.org) has worked with children in the community since 2001.  Their partnership with HubCAN will bring awareness about the autistic community and helps promote education and understanding among law enforcement and the community at large.

The day is centered around a platform for special needs children, their families, and the Law Enforcement community to come together and learn from each other while enjoying fun activities.  The families will be treated to live entertainment, rock climbing, skateboard clinic, soccer clinic, raffles, food and resource vendors, guest speakers, and more.

For additional information or questions, please contact Deputy Darryl Harkless, Compton Sheriff Station, (562) 243-3943.
