In the past week there have been two ATTEMPTED burglaries in a development off of Chestnut Ridge Road. At each, first floor windows were pried open with a tool. During these incidents the actor(s) have been deterred by the burglar alarm system sounding. Entry was not gained into either residence.

Most crimes are prevented or criminals are caught when the public assists the Police by reporting suspicious persons and activity. Talk with your neighbors about these events and discuss ways to secure your homes neighborhoods. Have a plan to report suspicious activity. The eyes and ears of the community are of great assistance in preventing and solving crimes.

The following tips may reduce your chances of becoming a victim;
 If you have an alarm system, update it, and use it.
 Second story windows should be alarmed.
 Leave interior and exterior lights on to make your home appear occupied.
 Leave a television or radio on inside your home.
 Please remove jewelry and valuables from the bedrooms.
 Remove safes from the master bedroom and their closets.
 Lock ALL doors and windows. We find many unlocked doors.
 Lock any unoccupied vehicles and remove the key fobs from them.
 Remove mail and newspapers from your driveway the day they are delivered.
 Secure any ladders on your property.
