#LASD - Cerritos Burglary Suspects Finally In-Custody, @CERLASD
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Cerritos Station received a burglary alarm call on the 12300 block of Charlwood Street, Cerritos, at approximately 1:24 p.m., on Thursday, April 07, 2016. Prior to deputies arriving at the residence, the burglary suspects fled the location.
Cerritos deputies were able to obtain the suspects’ description and vehicle information from a neighbor. They requested additional units to search the surrounding area for the suspects and vehicle. The vehicle was subsequently located by our Aero unit on the westbound 91 freeway to the northbound 710 freeway. They requested Sheriff’s units to the suspects’ location, however, due to the suspects’ erratic driving and speed, the units were unable to engage in a pursuit.
Our Aero unit remained in surveillance mode, and California Highway Patrol personnel engaged in a pursuit. It was subsequently turned over to Los Angeles Police Department Hollywood Division who remained in tracking mode. The suspects continued to drive at a high rate of speed and with no regard for public safety.
The news media helicopter was able to capture the suspects driving on the wrong side of the road, speeding, colliding into another vehicle, and continually putting the public in danger.
In the interest of public safety, Los Angeles Police Department ground units canceled their involvement in the pursuit, while their helicopter monitored the suspect’s location. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Aero Bureau was able to take over the monitoring of the suspects at East 51st Street and Central Avenue, Los Angeles, where the suspects stopped the vehicle.
Deputies were able to take the suspects into custody at the location without further incident.
The suspects have been transported to the Cerritos Station where they will be booked for Burglary, among many other charges.
The investigation is still ongoing.
There is no further information at this time.
