Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

Update to two recent robberies at the Bayshore Market and Dollar Tree Stores: On Tuesday, 03-29-16, detectives arrested a 40-year old San Francisco resident for committing both robberies.

Earlier in the month, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Laboratory advised they received a “hit” on samples that were sent in on a vehicle burglary from July 2015. Detectives arrested an 18-year old Daly City resident for auto burglary, and the subject gave a full confession.

Update to three recent cases of burglaries to gym lockers: Our investigators identified two subjects and arrested both of them on 03-30-16. The first suspect, a 32-year old San Jose resident, was arrested at her home where a handgun, 31 grams of methamphetamine, and evidence from the three lockers were located. The other suspect, a 22-year old San Jose resident, was arrested in her home in San Jose.

On Saturday, 04-02-16 at 10:51 p.m. Officer Fulmore stopped a vehicle on the 200 block of Cerro Drive. The officer smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer noticed the driver was nervous and asked why he was nervous. The officer asked the driver if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, and the driver said there was nothing besides the marijuana in the vehicle. Upon consent of the driver, the officer searched the driver and the vehicle. The driver admitted to the officer that he had “party pills” in his pants pocket. The officer also found a digital scale, as well as pills and cocaine. The subject, a 21-year old Pacifica resident, was arrested for possession of controlled substance for sales, transporting a controlled substance, and for committing a felony while out on bail.

On Saturday, 04-02-16 at 6:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on the report of a former employee threatening the manager he would rob the restaurant if he didn’t provide him with unemployment. The subject was located a short distance away and provided officers with a false name. The 32-year old transient subject said he knew he had a warrant, and that is why he didn’t give his real name. The subject was arrested for providing a false name to police officers and for a misdemeanor warrant.

On Saturday, 04-02-16 at 9:42 p.m., two Daly City residents were the victims of an attempted carjacking, assault with great bodily injury and battery upon a person by a 26-year old Daly City resident. This occurred on the 700 block of Hillside Boulevard. The subject was arrested and booked on the above charges.

On Sunday, 04-03-16 at 7:00 p.m., a 14-year old Daly City resident said as she was walking from the War Memorial Library to her friend’s house, she was contacted by a subject in a green four door older model vehicle, similar to a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, who asked if she knew someone by an unknown name. The victim said she saw that the subject had his penis out of his pants and his hand around it. The victim said the subject asked again if she knew the person he asked about and asked her if she needed a ride. The victim said she didn’t need one and left the area. The victim described the subject as a Filipino male in his 20’s with a round face and a bald head. This investigation is continuing.

Robberies

There were two robberies during the past week.

On Monday, 03-28-16 at 1:45 p.m., a loss prevention agent at Burlington Coat Factory was the victim of a strong arm robbery after he confronted a subject who shoplifted items from the store. The subject hit the loss prevention agent in the head. The subject was located about 45 minutes later at the Ben Franklin School and had identification not belonging to him in his possession, as well as tools, spark plugs and a shaved down car key—all items which are consistent with burglary tools. The subject, a 40-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for robbery, possession of personal identification not in his name and for possession of burglary tools.

On Thursday, 03-31-16 at 2:57 p.m.., a 74-year old Daly City resident advised Bank of America that two days earlier at 11:45 a.m., she was using the ATM on Southgate Avenue and was pushed out of the way by a subject who proceeded to use the ATM she was using. The subject evidently made three additional transactions after her initial transaction. The victim said she was frightened and worried the subject had a knife; however, she did not see one. The victim described the suspect as a black male, approximately 30 years old, approximately 5’5”, 150 pounds, wearing brown clothing. The victim was unharmed.

Scams/Other

IRS Scam

It’s that time of year when the “IRS Scam” is in full force. We have been receiving calls from people advising they have received phone calls/messages from callers claiming to be from the IRS. The caller advises that the person has not paid the proper taxes and to avoid arrest, the person must pay immediately by purchasing a money card and giving the “agent” the codes on the cards. The IRS will NOT call you. If you know you owe taxes or think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes, please report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General at 1-800-366-4484. You may also report a phone scam at the Treasury department’s site, https://www.treasury.gov and click on “services” and then again on “report fraud, waste and abuse.”

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
