As of late Wednesday afternoon, Modesto Police detectives are actively investigating a disturbing video as a hate crime.

As of late Wednesday afternoon, Modesto Police detectives are actively investigating a disturbing video as a hate crime.

The video was first reported to the Modesto Police Department on Tuesday, April 5th in the early afternoon hours. In the video, a white male juvenile makes specific reference to another individual while placing a noose around his neck. A gun is also fired in the video.

Given the totality of the circumstances at the time the call was investigated by patrol officers, the Modesto Police Department immediately escalated the investigation to the Investigative Services Division where it was assigned to a detective. The initial investigation suggests that students at Central Catholic High School are involved in the incident.

At this time, detectives continue to gather evidence, conduct interviews and coordinate with the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office to ensure that the case is investigated carefully and methodically. Additionally, staff at Central Catholic High School has been cooperative throughout and are assisting investigators in this case. No arrests have been made at this time; however detectives are making progress toward identifying the suspects involved in the production and distribution of the video.
