Advisory

Press Release - Residential burglary/grand theft/poss of stolen property/false imprisonment/vandalism/warrant arrest.

On Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 9:53AM, CPD officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of Garvey Avenue regarding a subject who had broken in and was being detained by one of the residents. The residents advised they woke up that morning and found a male subject inside one of the bedrooms who was attempting to steal electronics and jewelry from the home. The subject, who was later identified as Jesse Gomez (age 19), left the property he was attempting to steal behind and was able to flee out the back door of the residence. Gomez then broke some fence boards and was able to enter into the backyard of a home next door. As officers arrived in the area, Gomez entered the home next door with the residents also inside.

Gomez allegedly told the residents inside o “shut up and be quiet” not allowing them to leave the home while he attempted to hide from the police. Gomez then stole a wallet from the residence and fled out the front door of the residence. Officers pursued Gomez on foot and after a short foot chase Gomez was apprehended with the assistance of one of the residents who called the police. Officers were able to return
the stolen wallet Gomez had on his person back to the owner. Gomez was charged with two counts of burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property and false imprisonment. Gomez also had an active no
bail warrant out of Kings County for a probation violation. Gomez was later transported and booked into the Kings County Jail for the above listed offenses with a bail amount of $185,000.00. He is also being held without bail due to the warrant.
