The Malverne Police Department would like to report the arrest of Robert M. Cohan, a 29-year-old male from East Rockaway, NY for Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Scheming to Defraud 1st Degree on March 31st, 2016
On January 11,2016 a Male white now identified as Robert M. Cohan approached an elderly Stuart Avenue resident stating he is a General Contractor and was willing to make numerous repairs on the complainant's residence.
The subject, Robert Cohan walked around the property with the elderly homeowner and advised the resident that his house was in need of numerous repairs. He described the following repairs and the cost of the repairs to the complainant.
Driveway: $5,000.00
Front Stoop $5,000.00
Paint Exterior of House $5,300.00
Roof $4,800.00
Chimney $2,000.00.
Between January 11,2016 and January 19, 2016, Robert Cohan would arrive at the elderly gentleman’s residence daily, receiving and cashing several checks which were all written out to him totaling $22,100.00.
On January 21,2016 the complainant contacted Robert Cohan wishing to cancel any agreement they had previously made and requested the return of his money.
Between February 11, 2016 and February 19, 2016 the complainant’s nephew did attempt to intervene in the returning of the money with no results. The nephew then contacted the Malverne Police Department for assistance. Detective Ken Padilla was assigned to conduct the investigation
On March 31st, 2016 Detective Padilla, along with Police Officers Christopher Padula and Brian Schmidt did set up a meeting with Robert Cohan in the parking lot of Cross Island Fruits where the subject was placed under arrest without incident.
Robert Cohan is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Scheming to Defraud 1st Degree and is currently being held at the Nassau County Correctional Facility.
