Deputies arrest a Needles man for spousal abuse and recover a handgun

INCIDENT: Felony Spousal Abuse
LOCATION: Desert Oasis Rest Stop on Highway 40, Newberry Springs
SUSPECT: Herndon, Ronnie, 67 years from Needles
VICTIM: Confidential
SUMMARY:
On March 29, 2016 at approximately 4:30 a.m., a female called to report her husband physically beat her during an argument while they were at the Desert Oasis Rest Area in Newberry Springs. The suspect, Ron Herndon, was reportedly armed with a handgun and fled south on the freeway, leaving her at the rest area. Deputy Robbie Moore responded to investigate.
Moore was able to determine Herndon was most likely on his way to the Adelanto area and coordinated with Deputies from the Victor Valley station in Adelanto. Deputies located Herndon at the Maverick Stadium parking lot and arrested him without incident. A handgun was recovered.
The victim received substantial head and facial injuries but refused medical treatment in the field. Herndon was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for Spousal Abuse. His bail is $50,000.00.
