PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF
March 14, 2016 – March 20, 2016

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

03/14

Fraud: A caller reported that an individual claiming to be an employee with Social Security had called their mother to notify her that she had “won” an additional $500/month. No personal information was given. VPD advises anyone to not give out their private information. If there are any concerns, contact the Valdez Police Department.

MICS Marijuana: A caller reported juveniles smoking pot at Dock Point. An officer made contact with the juveniles and found no evidence of smoking.

Vagrancy: An individual was reported sleeping at the airport in the waiting area. Officers contacted the individual who has been trying to get to Moscow. They got a cab and stayed in at a local hotel.

Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported a vehicle left Iditarod St. and they had hit something as they drove down the road and suspected they were intoxicated. Officers made contact with the driver and determined there was no impairment.

Welfare Check: Officers were requested to check on an individual who had made comments regarding self harm. Officers were able to discuss the issues with the individual and made them feel better.

Found Property: An Alaska ID was found at a local business. Please claim at the Valdez Police Department.

Harassment: A caller reported a man outside her residence who was trying to get in and wouldn’t leave. Officers made contact with the individual and he was trespassed from the residence for the night.

Events deemed Unsafe: A woman was reported walking on the highway towards the duck flats and was not visible to traffic. The woman was gone by the time officers got there.

Disturbance - Other: A man was asked to leave a local business after he had refused to leave the premises. He was making remarks that were scaring the employees. Officers had contacted the individual earlier and found he was not threatening anyone.

MVA – D: A motor vehicle accident with damage was reported at a local business. Officers responded and PAR forms were issued.

MVA – D: A motor vehicle accident with damage was reported on the corner of Meals & Pioneer. An officer responded to document and issue PAR forms and issued each driver a citation.

Barking Dog: A caller reported that their neighbor’s dog had been barking all morning. Officer spoke with the RO of the dog and the dog was brought inside.

Found Property: A BB gun was found in the Valdez Area. Please contact the Valdez Police Department with descriptors to claim.

ETOH Pedestrian: Several callers reported a woman walking around with very little clothes and no shoes. Officers made contact with the woman who stated she was celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and was walking home. An officer provided transportation and got her home safe.

Animal Info: A caller reported a black lab was walking down Falcon Ave with an apparent broken leg. While an Officer was enroute, the caller was able to catch the dog and call the number listed on the dog tag. The RO was aware of the injury and went and picked up the dog.

Alarm – Burglar: Officers responded to a burglar alarm at a residence. When officers arrived, a door was found to be open. The owners were contacted and the Officers were able to clear and secure the residence.

Lost Property: A wallet was lost in the Valdez area. If found please turn in to the Valdez Police Department.

Summons: Henry Charles Anderson, dob 11/22/1969, of Valdez was summonsed to appear in court for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

Agency Assist: A caller reported that their vehicle went into the ditch on the Tok Highway. Valdez Dispatch contacted Matcom and a tow truck was sent out to assist the motorist and get their vehicle out of the ditch.

Civil Dispute: Intoxicated individuals were having a verbal argument over nonpayment of rent. Officers advised them that it was a civil matter and they would have to discuss it with the court.

Traffic Hazard: A tanker was reported stuck in the road at the Richardson Highway & Loop Road. A loader showed up to assist.

MVA – No Damage: A vehicle with an adult and three children slid off the highway by Tsaina Lodge. No damage or injuries were reported. DOT was able to assist on getting the vehicle out of the ditch.

Traffic Hazard: A car was reported parked on the Richardson Hwy with possible sparks coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle had already left before officer arrival.

Disturbance – Other: An argument between parties regarding civil issues was reported. Officers responded and separated parties for the night.

Lost Property: A pink hand sized wallet with the design of a cassette player containing debit cards, license, and miscellaneous cards was reported lost in the Valdez area. If found please turn in to the Valdez Police Department.

Threat: An individual reported to VPD that an individual was carrying a loaded gun and had said that “he would use it to protect himself”. Officers made contact with the person who stated that he said “that is why I carry, to protect myself if needed” and no threats were made to anyone.
