SMPD Has Identified and Arrested the Subject Wanted for Touching a 17-Year Old Thanks Once Again to the Watchful Eye of Our Community

SMPD COMMUNITY & MEDIA MESSAGE

CITY of SAN MATEO POLICE DEPARTMENT

www.cityofsanmateo.org

Following our press release on Friday, March 18th, SMPD received an overwhelming response from our best “eyes and ears” as several community members contacted us to help identify the wanted subject.  SMPD Detectives followed up on those tips and have since identified and arrested the suspect wanted for inappropriately touching a 17-year old girl on a SamTrans bus. He is identified as Mounir El Gendy, a 70-year old San Mateo resident.  El Gendy was arrested and booked for 647.6(a)(1) PC – Annoying a Child and 243.4(e)(1) – Sexual Battery.  Based on the nature of his behavior and his willingness to victimize a 17-year old girl in a public place, this case was a top priority for our Investigations Bureau and it was abundantly clear that our community shared in our passion and commitment to identifying this suspect as soon as possible.

SMPD wishes again to thank our community for its tremendous support in this case. Our neighbors have again proved that there is nothing more powerful in our quest for a safer San Mateo than our partnership with our community and it’s that very partnership that led to the successful arrest in this case.
