Please be aware we have received numerous reports of attempted IRS Phone Scams. In the calls, criminals impersonating IRS officials are making unsolicited calls demanding potential victims pay a bogus tax bill by sending cash, usually through a prepaid debit card or wire transfer. The callers often make threats to arrest, deport or revoke the license of intended victims.

Please be aware the IRS will never call to demand immediate payment for taxes. They will never ask you for your credit card number over the phone, or demand you send them cash via a wire transfer or prepaid debit card. In addition, they will never threaten to bring in police to arrest you for not paying.

If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS demanding money do not give out any information or send money. Hang up immediately. If you are unsure of the legitimacy of the phone call, you can contact the IRS at 800-829-1040 for assistance.
