Downtown Davis “Safety Walk”- Building a Safer Community

The City of Davis, the Davis Police Department, the Davis Chamber of Commerce and Davis Downtown will be hosting a downtown “Safety Walk” on Wednesday March 30, 2016, at 8:00 p.m. The safety walk will focus on identifying burned out lights, areas where improved lighting is needed, trees or shrubbery blocking sidewalks or posing hazards, trip hazards, and other safety concerns in the downtown. Community members will pair up on teams with representatives of the City of Davis, who will record the identified deficiencies, hazards and concerns so that the City can make repairs or work with our downtown partners on making improvements.

“Ensuring that our downtown is well-lit and free of safety hazards is a major priority for the city, which is why we’re asking community members to assist us with this safety walk,” said City Councilman Lucas Frerichs. “This is a great example of collaboration between the Police Department, business community and the City, so I hope as many people as possible are able to participate to make our downtown a safer place.”

Community members, business owners, and students are encouraged to join the safety walk. We will meet at the Davis Downtown kiosk located in front of the Amtrak train station at 826 2nd St (near the corner of 2nd and H St). Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. For further information about the safety walk, please contact Lieutenant Glenn Glasgow at [email protected]. Keeping our downtown safe and well lit requires community effort – please join us as we build a safer community!
