Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Wednesday, 03-02-16 at 3:30 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Templeton Avenue and Hanover Street. The driver, a 23-year old San Francisco resident, had a suspended driver's license and thought he took care of it. The driver consented to the officers when they asked to search his vehicle. The officers found a large amount of marijuana and a scale. The driver was arrested for possession of marijuana for sales and for driving with a suspended driver's license. His passenger, a 24-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for possession of marijuana for sale and for possession of cocaine.

On Thursday, 03-03-16 at approximately 3:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Serramonte Boulevard and Highway 1 north on a report of three subjects chasing each other in vehicles. Two vehicles were involved in a collision, and one subject fled the vehicle and was last seen running north on Callan Boulevard from Serramonte Boulevard. Officers contacted a subject matching the description on Callan Boulevard after seeing him exiting the doors of one of the residences. The passenger in the vehicle the subject fled from had an outstanding warrant. She advised that the driver was her boyfriend. The other driver of the vehicle at the scene said he owned the vehicle the subject was in and that the subject took the vehicle in San Francisco after he had left it idling. The owner of the vehicle attempted to retrieve the vehicle and followed the subject and forced him to stop. Officers arrested the subject, a 29-year old Daly City resident, for hit and run, driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia (a glass pipe), residential burglary and an outstanding warrant. The passenger/girlfriend of the suspect, a 24-year old Newark resident, was arrested for possession of heroin, possession of a switchblade knife, possession of drug paraphernalia (a glass pipe), being a felon in possession of a stun gun, possession of stolen property, and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

On Friday, 03-04-16 at approximately 3:31 p.m., Officer Patrick Dolan conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation that occurred near the intersection of Price Street and Hillside Boulevard. The driver didn’t have a driver's license, and dispatchers advised that the driver had a suspended driver's license and was also a registered sex offender in San Francisco. Further investigation revealed that the 51-year subject had moved back to Daly City four months prior and had failed to register as a sex registrant at the Police Department. The subject had several items in his possession including watches, a Samsung tablet, iPod and an iPhone which he couldn’t prove ownership of. Officer Dolan arrested the subject for failing to register as a sex offender, misappropriation of lost property and for driving with a suspended driver's license.

On Sunday, 03-06-16 at 3:35 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Wellington Avenue on a report of a “medical incident involving drugs.” While officers were enroute, dispatchers advised them that the reporting party had a knife. Officers arrived to find a male subject on the ground yelling and holding his left leg. The subject advised the officers he was stabbed. The officers saw another subject nearby who was on the ground holding a knife which was pointed upward. The subject initially refused to drop the knife but later complied. After an investigation, officers arrested the subject, a 20-year old San Francisco resident for assault with a deadly weapon. The victim, a 21-year old South San Francisco resident, was transported to the hospital for treatment. The subjects knew each other.

Scams/Other

It’s that time of year when the “IRS Scam” is in full force. We have been receiving calls from people advising they have received phone calls/messages from callers claiming to be from the IRS. The caller advises that the person has not paid the proper taxes and to avoid arrest, the person must pay immediately by purchasing a money card and giving the “agent” the codes on the cards. The IRS will NOT call you. If you know you owe taxes or think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes, please report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General at 1-800-366-4484. You may also report a phone scam at the Treasury department’s site, https://www.treasury.gov and click on “services” and then again on “report fraud, waste and abuse.”

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
