IRS Scam and Coffee with a Cop

The Frankfort Police Department has received several phone calls regarding IRS Scams. It is tax season, and IRS scammers are out in full force. Some even reported scammers claiming to be from the FBI calling on behalf of the IRS. Please remember that the IRS will not contact you over the phone if there is a problem. Do not give out any personal information or payment information over the phone unless you initiated the phone contact. If the phone call is unsolicited or seems unusual, end the call, and call back using a listed number easily found in the phone book or on-line. Lastly, be aware of caller id spoofing. Anyone can “spoof” your caller id making it appear that a government agency, business or any phone number is the one calling you. Scam IRS calls can be reported to the IRS at 1-800-366-4484. More information on the scam can be found at www.irs.gov. Also beware of tax refund anticipation loans. More information can be found at www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov.

The Frankfort Police Department would like to invite everyone to our next “Coffee with a Cop” event at Panera Bread, 11069 W. Lincoln Hwy. The event will take place on April 1st, 2016 from 8:30-10 a.m. No speeches, no agendas, just an opportunity to talk with Chief John Burica and other members of the Frankfort Police Department.
