HIT AND RUN VICTIM SUCCUMBS TO HIS INJURIES

On Monday, January 6, 2016, at approximately 5:40 a.m., a severe injury hit and run traffic collision occurred at the intersection of 42nd Street and Ascot Avenue in Newton Area. The collision occurred when Salvador Mena, 83 years old and a resident of Los Angeles, was crossing 42nd Street and struck by a vehicle making a right turn from southbound Ascot Avenue. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without identifying himself, or stopping to render aid to Mr. Mena. There were no witnesses to the collision. Mena was transported to LAC+USC Medical Center by paramedics from the Los Angeles City Fire Department. On February 29, 2016, Mena succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The City of Los Angeles is offering a reward in the amount of $25,000.00 for information leading to the identity, arrest, and prosecution of the person responsible for the death of Mr. Salvador Mena. The investigation is being conducted by Central Traffic Division Detectives.
