Severe Weather Spotter Training
On Tuesday night, Madison County EMA hosted the National Weather Service - Indianapolis at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino in Anderson, IN for severe weather spotter training. This training was open to public safety officials, amateur radio operators, as well as the general public. There were over 110 people signed in at Hoosier Park for this training. This was the 45th year for severe weather spotter training in Madison County. We are very fortunate to have a cadre of trained volunteer weather spotters who spread out throughout Madison County when severe weather threatens the community. These amateur radio weather spotters are all members of the Madison County EMA.
In addition to the training, representatives from the Madison County Commissioners office, National Weather Service, and EMA recognized Tom Harbron for his 40+ years of volunteer service in EMA.
Severe weather is possible year around in Indiana, however March-June are the key months for potentially dangerous weather. Citizens are reminded to be alert and have multiple methods to receive weather warning and alerts. Madison Co EMA provides free alert and notification service to all of our citizens. Citizens can text MadisonCoEMA to 888777 from their phone to receive text alerts or you can go to our website www.madisoncoema.org to sign up to receive phone calls, emails and text alerting.
