Press Release: Residential Burglary with video of the suspect

On February 18, 2016, El Cerrito patrol officers responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 1500 block of Liberty Street. Investigating officers arrived on scene and determined an unidentified suspect broke into the residence between 1505 and 1535 hours. During the investigation, the victim residents told officers that they have installed a closed circuit surveillance video system which was recording during the time of the theft. Upon watching the video, officers observed the suspect knocking on the front door of the victim residence.

After no one answered the door, the suspect went around the back of the home (where there was no video) and forced entry into the home. He ransacked the home and left with small stolen items, money, jewelry etc. Towards the end of the video the suspect is seen walking away from the residence.

The suspect is described as being an African American male, possibly in his 30’s, standing around 5’10”, weighing 180 pounds, wearing a black sweatshirt, blue jeans and light colored shoes. Detectives are asking anyone with information, particularly those who can identify the suspect, to contact the ECPD at 510-215-4400 or [email protected] CCTV video of the incident can be seen at:
