UPDATE #LASD Homicide Det. Assist South Gate PD Inv. Officer-Involved Shooting, Tweedy Blvd/Burtis St, South Gate 
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives responded to Tweedy Boulevard and Burtis Street, South Gate, to assist South Gate Police Department in investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at approximately 1:32 AM.
South Gate Police Department officers attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled from the officers at a high rate of speed and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit was canceled due to the poor driving conditions. The suspect vehicle continued eastbound Tweedy Avenue at Burtis Street where it was involved in a solo vehicle traffic collision.
Both suspects in the vehicle fled on foot. The passenger was detained without incident. The driver, a male Hispanic adult, fired at the pursuing officer and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck in the upper torso and pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect’s weapon was recovered at the scene.
No suspects are outstanding.
No officers were injured.
The investigation is still ongoing.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives are responding to Tweedy Boulevard and Burtis Street, South Gate, to assist the South Gate Police Department investigate the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, March 6, 2016.
The suspect, a male Hispanic adult, was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.
