TO: News Media

FROM: Sgt. Summer Black

SUBJECT: 16- 2683 Arrest of Vehicle Pursuit Suspect

On 2/24/16 at about 8:08 p.m. a Santa Rosa Police Department Officer was patrolling the area of Sebastopol Rd and Lombardi Ln. The officer saw a green Honda turn onto Lombardi Ln from Sebastopol Rd. and then accelerate above the posted speed limit, continuing southbound. As the officer tried to catch up to the Honda and initiate a traffic stop, the Honda accelerated again and ran a stop sign. The Honda nearly collided with several parked vehicles along Lombardi Ln. The officer had turned on his emergency lights to stop the vehicle but the vehicle continued to speed away. As the officer pursued the vehicle and attempted to close distance, the driver continued onto eastbound Campbell Dr. The driver accelerated again and made an abrupt turn onto Quintin Pl. The Honda stopped abruptly at the end of the street and a male driver quickly exited the vehicle. He fled on foot through the residential neighborhood. The officer who was pursuing the vehicle located a female passenger with a small child inside of the vehicle. These subjects were later identified as the driver’s girlfriend and child.

A perimeter was quickly established after the driver was identified by the female passenger. A search was conducted for the driver, who was believed to reside somewhere close to this area. A short time later, the driver was apprehended by another SRPD Officer, near Stony Point Rd and Campbell Dr. He was taken into custody without incident.

The driver was identified as Xavier Olivarez, a 22 year old Santa Rosa man. During the investigation, officers determined that Olivarez may be under the influence of alcohol and impaired. Olivarez was booked at the Sonoma County Jail on charges of driving under the influence (23152(a) and 23152(b) VC), felony evading a police officer in a vehicle (2800.2(a) VC), driving on a suspended license (14601.1(a) VC), violation of probation (1203.2 PC), child endangerment (273a(a) PC), and for an outstanding warrant.
