El Cerrito City Manager Scott Hanin has announced that Captain Paul Keith will serve as the Interim Police Chief.

El Cerrito, CA: El Cerrito City Manager Scott Hanin has announced that Captain Paul Keith will serve as the Interim Police Chief, beginning on March 7, 2016. Current Police Chief Sylvia Moir, has accepted the position of Police Chief with the City of Tempe, Arizona.

Captain Paul Keith has served the City of El Cerrito for over 15 years in a variety of policing positions. In his current assignment, Captain Keith oversees Police Department operations, goals, and budgeting. Captain Keith has a Bachelor’s Degree in History, from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, from California State University, East Bay.

City Manager Scott Hanin stated, “Paul Keith has been a long-term employee of the El Cerrito Police Department and has most recently served as the second in command to Chief Moir. I have every confidence that he will continue the positive momentum of the Department and know he has the full support of the City and the Police Department in this new endeavor.”

Chief Moir was sworn in as El Cerrito Police Chief on July 12, 2010. She currently serves on the California Police Chiefs Association Executive Board as the Second Vice President and as Vice Chair of the California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission. “Chief Moir brought an extensive background in crime prevention, community involvement and leadership development to our City and Department,” said City Manager Scott Hanin. “Sylvia has been an integral part of our team and she will be missed in our organization as well as in the community. We will always be proud that Chief Moir worked in El Cerrito. I know she will go on to do wonderful things in Tempe.”
