Caring and courageous children bode a fine future for our community. #LASD #Homeless #KaylasKovers

The Kayla's Kovers project is still going on, here is another example of the empathy and caring shown by the children of our community.

Patricia Marie Delgado sent us this story about 9 year old Symphanie

So during this summer my 9 year old daughter Symphanie wanted to break her piggy bank open. So we did and then headed to the bank to see how much she had saved.

The bank gives her $200.00 she is so excited so I ask her. What are you going to buy with all that money ? You know your rich right? She looks at me and says I know where I want to go mom, to Pavillions so I said ok let's go. But before I take you can I get $5 for gas? She says no mom, come on please take me right now.

So we go to Pavillions as we are walking in she grabs a brown paper bag. The ones that the store prepares for the family's that need food. She walks up to the register and waits her turn. As she is walking up the cashier tell her $5 so she gives him all her money the whole $200.00. The cashier tells her No sweetie it's only $5. Then she tells him I know sir but I would like to buy $200.00 in bags if that's OK with you sir.? I wish i could buy more but this is all I had in my piggy bank sir.

The cashier looks at me and ask me if I am mom I said Yes. Then asks if it's OK and I say if that's what she wants to do with her money it's her money. So she finishes paying for 40 bags and as we are walking out of the store she looks at me and says Mom those are the best $200.00 I have ever spent in my whole life.

So I tell her Symphanie that was very nice of you. She looks at me and says Mom we have a home we have food and we have our family so I thought it would be nice to to give a few people something we already have and they don't have FOOD Mom.

Two weeks after this she wakes me up about 730 and asks if I could buy 100 hamburgers from McDonalds so I call they say I would to call the day before that's too much in a little times notice so I order 30 for her I ask her what do you want all these hamburgers for, Symphanie she say cause we're going to go feed all the homeless people in the parks today mom and we did.

Just last night my two girls tell me mom can we use the ziplock bags for something? I said sure so I had just finished dinner so I went to my room to. Hang some clothes when I'm coming out they have filled 4 big ziplock baggies with rice and chicken with some forks and 4 sodas. So I ask what are you doing with that they say we're going to library park mom to go feed the homeless people.

So we did they were so excited to know they gave some warm food to people who are less unfortunate but they gave the bags out with hand shakes and hugs and told them "God bless all of you guys tonight ".

I am very proud of all my kids they are very giving loving kids and I thank God every day that he blessed me with such amazing children. I'm a very lucky mom.

We at Temple Sheriff's Station thank our great children Like Kayla, Symphanie, Mia and Nicole Oberlander. Their caring and courage make the lives of those in our community that much better.
