On Friday, February 12, 2016 at approximately 10:09hrs the Frankfort Police Department received a report of a home invasion occurring in the 1000 block of Prestwick Drive. It was learned a lone male offender armed with a handgun had entered the residence threatening the 2 juvenile occupants. Upon arrival of Frankfort police officers, the offender fled the residence eastbound onto the Old Plank Trail and entered a wooded area just east of Harlem Avenue. With the assistance of the Will County Sheriff's Office, The Will County Forest Preserve Police as well as the New Lenox, Mokena, Olympia Fields and Matteson Police Departments a perimeter was set-up and maintained. At approximately 11:02hrs the subject was taken into custody without incident. It should be noted that no one was harmed or injured.
The offender in this incident has been identified as: Micah J. Romanek, 21 years of age, residing in the 19900 block of Newton Way, Mokena, IL 60448. The residence in this incident was randomly targeted and there is no connection between victim and offender. A confirmed handgun was used in the commission of this crime. Romanek will be transferred to the custody of the Will County Detention Facility and has been charged with Armed Violence, Armed Robbery, Home Invasion, and Burglary.
