INCIDENT: PC 273a (a) – Child Endangerment

LOCATION: 10900 block of Allegheny Rd, Town of Apple Valley

SUSPECT: Joe Reyes, 26, Resident of Apple Valley
Kimberly Aquino, 22, Resident of Apple Valley

VICTIM: 8 week old female

SUMMARY:
On February 8, 2015, Aquino took their daughter to Desert Valley Hospital for injuries to her head. While at the hospital, doctors found that the 8 week old victim had sustained a complex skull fracture as a result of blunt force to her head. The baby was transferred to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital for further treatment by Forensic Pediatricians. The pediatricians also found that the baby was severely malnourished, and was severely underweight for her age. The baby was placed into protective custody by social workers from Children and Family Services, while Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department – Crimes Against Children Detail conducted their investigation.

Reyes and Aquino are in a dating relationship and have an 8 week old daughter together.

During the investigation, it was determined that the parents’ account of how the baby received her injuries was not consistent with the injuries sustained.

On February 12, 2016, at about 9:30 a.m. both parents were contacted during the investigation and were placed under arrest for Child Endangerment charges. Both parents were booked into the High Desert Detention Center, where they both are being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. Both suspects are scheduled for arraignment at the Victorville Superior Court on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.
