Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Tuesday, 02-02-16 at 2:59 a.m., Officer Jerel Tualaulelei was dispatched to the unit block of Station Avenue on a report of a suspicious person who had been drinking, throwing garbage cans and trying to open vehicles. The officer saw that the subject was bleeding from his head, had an unsteady gait, slurred speech and exuded the odor of an alcoholic beverage as he spoke. Nearby the subject were items such as a notebook, sunglass case and purse. There were two nearby vehicles that had damage—a smashed window and a broken mirror. The owner of the vehicle with the smashed window identified the items by the subject as items from his vehicle. The subject, a 22-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for burglary and vandalism.
On Tuesday, 02-02-16 at 1:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Seton Hospital parking lot on a report of a domestic disturbance. Seton Security officers said it appeared as if the female was trying to get away from the male and that the male ran down the hill after he saw the security officers. The female got into the truck, and Officer Haralambidis attempted to pull over the truck. A pursuit was initiated from the Seton parking lot and ended near the intersection of Sullivan Avenue and Southgate Avenue after the female collided into one of the police vehicles on the scene. The female subject, a 19-year old Pacifica resident, was arrested for obstructing/resisting a peace officer and for evading a peace officer. A complaint for battery is requested for the male subject, a 20-year old Pacifica resident.
On Wednesday, 02-03-16 at 10:00 a.m., officers, along with representatives from the San Mateo County SPCA, met with a resident on the unit block of El Portal Way. Since 01-27-16, we have received complaints of three dogs constantly barking in the backyard of the residence. There were four dogs at the residence, and the SPCA found no issues related to the health and welfare of the dogs. The owner was cited for various municipal code violations, including having an unlicensed dog, habitual barking, failure to exercise proper control over animals and for keeping more than two dogs on a premises. The 36-year old resident said he would seek some sort of remedy for this situation.
On Wednesday, 02-03-16 at 5:20 p.m., Officer Nicholas McCarthy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the area of Highway 35 and Westridge Avenue. The vehicle was reported stolen from Tracy earlier that day. The driver, a 16-year old Tracy resident, was arrested for vehicle theft, being in possession of a stolen vehicle and committing an adult offense while being a minor.
On Thursday, 02-04-16 at approximately 6:20 p.m., a 63-year old Daly City resident was walking from the Daly City BART station and crossing the street on So. Mayfair Avenue and Forest Grove Drive and was struck by a vehicle. The victim said the driver stopped out and asked if he was okay and then got back into his vehicle and left the scene. The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital and was deemed to be in stable condition. Investigators are working on leads to identify the suspect vehicle.
On Friday, 02-05-16 at approximately 2:37 p.m., Officer Benjamin Riney was dispatched to the Mr. Pickles deli on a report of a male subject yelling in the bathroom. The officer met with the subject who seemed agitated, stressed, and had great difficulty gathering his belongings. Officer Riney asked the subject what was wrong, and the subject said he was frustrated with his mother because she was supposed to give him his social security check, but he had not yet received it. The 43-year old subject said he was homeless and that he often stays in San Francisco. The subject said he was yelling in the bathroom because he didn’t want to yell in front of other customers. The subject allowed the officer to search his belongings, and the officer found a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. The subject admitted to smoking methamphetamine the day before. The subject did not appear to be under the influence, and the officer cited him for possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia.
On Saturday, 02-06-16 at 4:32 p.m., Officer Benjamin Riney was dispatched to Geneva Avenue and Rio Verde Street on a report of a female subject sleeping on the bus. The bus driver said he couldn’t wake up the subject. After Officer Riney woke up the subject, he asked her who she was, and the subject said she was a school teacher from Chicago on vacation in San Francisco to watch the Super Bowl. Dispatchers were unable to confirm her identification with the name that she gave the officer. The subject did not have any proof of identification, and the officer asked if he could search the subject’s purse for any form of I.D. The subject gave consent, and the officer found a glass pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine and also found a porcelain spark plug tied to a shoe lace. (This object is commonly used to break vehicle windows.) The officer continued to question the legitimacy of the subject’s reason for being on the bus and also her identity. After being transported to the police station, the subject admitted her true name. The subject had an outstanding warrant from San Francisco for theft. The subject admitted to having a drug problem but that the spark plug was not hers. The 28-year old transient subject couldn’t be medically cleared for the county jail, as she had a blood infection and needed to be hospitalized. A complaint is sought against her for possession of burglary tools, possession of unlawful paraphernalia and for providing false identification to a police officer.

Nextdoor.com
This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
