Advisory

UPDATE: Only text 911 if you have an EMERGENCY. DO NOT TEXT 911 for service issues w/ AT&T. They are aware of issue.

UPDATE 02/08/2016 5:10pm - Text to 911 is for EMERGENCIES ONLY. Do not text 911 to report service issues with AT&T or any other non-emergency related situation.

Text to 9-1-1 should be treated just like a regular 9-1-1 telephone call, and only used to request assistance for immediate significant threats to life or property.  We apologize for the confusion.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE 02/08/2016 4:56pm - AT&T Wireless cell customers in Teton County may currently be experiencing issues with voice calls on the AT&T network.  We have noticed that outgoing calls from AT&T wireless phones, including calls to 9-1-1, are inconsistent and in many cases are not working.  Users may receive a recording saying the call cannot be completed as dialed.  Testing has shown that text messaging and data appear to be unaffected at this time.

Until this issue is resolved by AT&T, if you have an immediate emergency and outgoing phone calls do not work you can send a text message to 911 for help instead.  Simply send a text requesting assistance to the number 911 and dispatchers will be able to text with you to obtain the necessary information to send assistance.

AT&T is aware of the issue, which is impacting western Wyoming and eastern Idaho.  At this time, there is no estimated time for repair.

Text to 9-1-1 is a relatively new service offered by the Teton County Sheriff's Office Dispatch, and can always be used as a backup when voice 9-1-1 calls are not an option.
