New "Text to RUPD" Service

Members of the Rutgers University-New Brunswick Community,

As part of the University's mission to improve safety on campus, the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) has partnered with the Rutgers University Student Assembly (RUSA) to launch a “Text to RUPD” pilot program. The campaigning for this new University initiative was led by RUSA with funding provided by RUSA, the Rutgers Business Governing Association, Engineering Governing Council, Interfraternity Council, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences Governing Council, Residence Hall Association, and the Off-Campus Student Association. This service will offer faculty, staff and students an alternative mode to communicate non-emergency concerns or requests for help to the Rutgers Police Department. On February 5, 2016, at 12 p.m. the RUPD will officially launch this service. At this time, the pilot program will serve Rutgers locations in New Brunswick and Piscataway only.

The system will be monitored 24/7 by the RUPD's Dispatch & Communications Center, has the ability to receive text and picture messages, and will display the cell number of the individual sending the text message so that Public Safety personnel can interact directly via text.

This service is not intended for emergency situations. For all emergencies, please dial 9-1-1.
