Modesto Man Arrested for Cruelty to Animals After Deputies Find Rooster Fighting Operation

Modesto, CA- On February 07, 2016 at 10:15 AM deputies were dispatched to a 911 call of people fighting dogs in the 1500 block of Grimes Ave in Modesto, CA. When deputies arrived they found a rooster fighting operation in the backyard of a residence. Several men ran when deputies arrived and they were able to detain 20 men including the resident, 37 year-old Efrain Marcucci.
In the backyard of the residence they found an enclosed pin to fight roosters and metal fighting spurs. Approximately 300 live roosters and approximately 50 dead roosters were also found in the back yard. Marcucci was arrested for animal cruelty and Animal Control responded to take custody of all the roosters.
