Victim of the robbery at Solano Town Center succumbs to her injuries
On February 5, 2016 at 6:00am the victim from the robbery at the Solano Town Center died from the injuries sustained in the incident. The victim is identified as Cheryl Ann Sherwood, a 63 yr. old Suisun City resident.
On Wednesday, February 3, 2016 while walking to her car, Mrs. Sherwood was struck in the head from behind with a baseball bat. The suspect then took her purse and fled the scene. Detectives from the Fairfield Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit were able to track the suspect to the City of Vallejo. Detectives learned that the Vallejo Police Department had arrested the suspect during a traffic stop for a violent crime that occurred the previous day in Vallejo. Mrs. Sherwood’s purse was recovered during the traffic stop.
The suspect, William David King, a 19 year old Vallejo resident, was arrested and initially booked for Robbery, Attempted Murder, and Mayhem. With the passing of Mrs. Sherwood, this is now a homicide case. Detectives are working with the Solano County District Attorney’s Office to upgrade King’s charges to Homicide.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Sherwood’s family during this time of loss. This was a bold, brazen and random crime of opportunity. Fire and Medical personnel were inside the mall on an unrelated medial call at the time of the attack. A Fairfield Fire Squad and a Medic Ambulance were parked in front of the Mall entrance with their emergency lights on just yards away from this crime.
The Fairfield Police Department is committed to the safety of everyone who lives, works and shops in the City of Fairfield and the Solano Town Center. While it is almost impossible to prevent this type of random act of violence, we will be increasing patrols of the area in and around the Solano Town Center in an effort to deter criminal activity.
