Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 01-25-16 at approximately 1:28 a.m., a 53-year old San Francisco resident was driving his vehicle southbound on Bayshore Boulevard, and his vehicle drifted off the road and hit the curb on the 2600 block of Bayshore and collided with a utility pole. Bystanders pulled the subject from the vehicle and began CPR. The driver was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

On Thursday, 01-28-16 at 1:49 a.m., Officer Cecilia Garay and Officer Michael Nuovo contacted the occupants of a parked vehicle in the area of Alta Vista Way and Oakridge Drive. The officers noticed the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and also saw an opened beer can on the passenger side of the vehicle next to the passenger. The officers asked the occupants of the vehicle if they could search the vehicle, and after receiving consent, Officer Nuovo found a pink stun gun in the center console. The subject in the driver’s seat, a 21-year old Daly City resident, was a felon, and he was cited for being a felon in possession of a stun gun.

On Sunday, 01-31-16 at 1:20 a.m., Officer Philip Wagnon conducted a traffic stop at Geneva Avenue and Rio Verde Street. When Officer Wagnon approached the vehicle, he could smell a distinct odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. When he looked into the vehicle, he saw a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance he believed to be marijuana. The officer asked the passenger if there was marijuana in the car, and the passenger said yes. The officer asked the subject if there was anything else illegal in his vehicle, and the subject said there was not and that the officer could check if he wanted. Officer Wagnon looked in the glove box and realized it was loose. He pulled down on the box and noticed a plastic panel within the dash board and saw two bags of a large quantity of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine. Officer Wagnon also found a scale in the vehicle. The vehicle’s owner, a 27-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sales, using a hidden concealment compartment and transporting a controlled substance for sales. The driver, a 36-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possession of cocaine and for driving without a license.

On Sunday, 01-31-16 at approximately 8:12 p.m., a 30-year old Alameda resident, was cited for carrying a concealed firearm in the passenger compartment of his vehicle. This was following a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of St. Francisco Square.

On Sunday, 01-31-16 at 8:58 p.m., Officer Shane Hart was on patrol in the area of Geneva Avenue and Carter Street and conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Alpine Inn. Dispatchers advised the vehicle was stolen from San Jose. Officer Hart and his cover officer Rodney Chittenden ordered the female driver and male passenger to exit the vehicle. The driver and her boyfriend, the passenger, both said he had just bought the vehicle a few days ago and was unaware it was stolen, but they had no paperwork regarding the sale of the vehicle. The subjects were staying at the hotel, and subsequent to a search of the subjects and the hotel room, officers found a large quantity of methamphetamine, as well as heroin. The driver, a 23-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine for sales, possession of heroin for sales, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The passenger, a 37-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine for sales, possession of heroin for sales, and for possession of a vehicle master key.

On Wednesday, 01-27-16 at approximately 6:44 p.m., a 67-year old San Francisco resident said she was withdrawing money from a Bank of America ATM at the Serramonte Shopping Center, and she said once she finished her transaction, a black male adult stepped in front of her, slightly pushing her to the side and began using the ATM she just used. The victim said she advised the subject she wasn’t finished yet, and she said the suspect already put his card in and began to withdraw money from the ATM. The victim said she stood by the ATM while the suspect used it, and once the suspect left, she checked her bank account. She received a receipt saying her debit card was being placed on restrictions by Bank of America, as she was over the limit of withdrawal. The victim was advised by the bank that the suspect made two transactions of $200. The victim described the suspect as a black male adult, clean cut, wearing a white or red tee-shirt, and black jeans. Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
