Narrative:
On January 13, 2016, at about 10am, deputies from the Ojai station conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Stanley Avenue and Olive Street. The occupants, Michelle Villarreal and Robyn Moore, were evaluated and arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Moore was determined to be on probation and a search of the vehicle resulted in a large quantity of stolen mail being recovered. It was determined the mail had been stolen on 1/2/2016 from the Oakview area. There were more than 20 victims of mail theft from that day.

Ojai Detectives responded to assist in the investigation and through the course of the investigation Villarreal and Moore were linked to additional mail thefts in the Ojai Valley, Ventura and Thousand Oaks that spanned from September 2015 to December 2015. In total, they are linked to more than 50 victims of mail theft.

Detectives were able to connect and arrest Villarreal and Moore to four outstanding Ojai identity theft cases dating back to September 2015. Detectives are urging Ojai residents who have had their checks forged or credit card information compromised between the listed dates to contact Detective Mulrooney. Villarreal and Moore were booked into the Ventura County Main Jail for identity theft of 10 or more victims, mail theft, and under the influence of a controlled substance. Villarreal’s bail was set at $110,000. Moore’s bail was set at $70,000.
