January 22nd
Arrest for DUI, Hit and Run, Warrant – Oak Street at Willow Ave
At approximately 0742 hours, officers responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle. The driver of the Toyota was passed out and at rest behind a parked Dodge Neon which it had collided with. The damage to the Toyota indicated it had been involved in a more substantial collision. An El Cerrito police officer located a GMC Yukon parked in the area with the Toyota’s grill impaled in the front of it. The driver of the Toyota, a 24 year old male from El Cerrito, admitted to driving and not drinking since the collision, which had occurred hours earlier. He was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. He was also driving on a suspended license and was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant for the same. He was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Shoplifting - 10650 San Pablo Avenue
At approximately 0805 hours, the suspect, a black male adult, 5’11” 180 lbs, 25-35 years old, wearing a red beanie, black jacket loaded his backpack with toothpaste and then fled south on San Pablo Avenue. The total loss was $107.
Hit and Run – Potrero Ave. at I-80
At approximately 0901 hours, an El Cerrito police officer responded to the report of a vehicle struck by a silver Ford Windstar. The Ford Windstar fled the area without contacting the owner of the other vehicle. The victim did not suffer any injuries and their vehicle suffered minor damage.
Residential Burglary – 6600 Hagen Blvd
In between 01-20-16 at 2245 hours and 1-22-16 at 1200 hours, an unidentified suspect entered the victim’s garage. The suspect stole two tool boxes with hand tools and a box of 1989 World Series memorabilia hats.
Vandalism – 11575 San Pablo Ave
At approximately 1239 hours, an El Cerrito police sergeant observed a 21 year old male from San Pablo applying graffiti on a PG&E electrical box. He was also in possession of numerous tag stickers, permanent markers and ink blotters. He was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, issued a citation and released.
Armed Robbery – 1700 block Lexington Ave:
At approximately 1809 hours, the victim was walking south on the BART path when she was approached by the suspect. The suspect brandished a handgun, threatened to shoot the victim, and demanded her cell phone. The suspect fled northbound with the victim’s cell phone. The suspect was described as a 20-25 year old black male, 6-04, 175, dark clothing, shoulder length dreads, smooth skin, and medium complexion.
Vandalism – 500 block Clayton Ave:
Sometime between 1400 and 1600 hours, an unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger window of the victim’s 2013 Volkswagen Passat while the vehicle was parked in his driveway.
Armed Robbery, Sexual Battery – BART Path / Gladys Ave:
At approximately 1830 hours, the victim was walking southbound the BART path when she was approached by the suspect. The suspect brandished a handgun, grabbed the victim’s buttocks, and searched the victim’s pockets and took her phone then demanded money. The suspect grabbed the victim’s buttocks again and fled northbound. The suspect was described as a black male in his 30s, 5-11, 175, and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and denim pants. He had smooth skin and a medium complexion

Warrant – 5600 block El Dorado St:
At 1947 hours, an officer responded to a possible trespasser at a vacant house and located a 31 year old male from Richmond. The man was wanted on a no bail Contra Cost County warrant. He was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Auto v. Pedestrian Collision – Central Ave / Kearney St:
At 2003 hours, Officers responded to an auto vs. pedestrian collision. The pedestrian was crossing Central Avenue in the marked crosswalk from south to north and struck by a vehicle travelling westbound on Central Avenue. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries and was treated by fire and AMR and eventually refused transportation to the hospital.
Petty Theft – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave:
Between 1635 and 1645 hours, the victim was shopping in Safeway and had her purse in the upper portion of the shopping cart. A male, described as a black male with a scruffy beard and wearing a camouflage jacket was following her at an unusually close distance. When the victim attempted to pay for her groceries she realized her wallet was missing. She suspected the male with the camouflage jacket stole her wallet when she turned her back in the frozen food aisle.
Vandalism – 900 block Pomona Ave:
Sometime between 1130 and 2000 hours, an unknown suspect smashed the rear driver side window of the victim’s 2001 Honda Odyssey van.
Shoplift, Public Intoxication – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave:
At 0028 hours, an officer was flagged down about a theft which just occurred. A 34 year old man from San Francisco was placed under citizen arrest. The man entered Safeway, concealed a bottle of alcohol and left without paying. He was heavily intoxicated. He was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Warrant – San Pablo Ave / Barrett Ave:
At 0053 Hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 24 year old female from Richmond on a no cite Solano County warrant. She was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Stolen Vehicle – 700 block Liberty Street:
Sometime between 1440 and 0445 hours, a suspect stole a white 2000 Ford Van. Contra Costa Sherriff located the van.
January 23rd
Robbery – CVS 10650 San Pablo Avenue
At approximately 0919 hours, El Cerrito police officers responded to the report of the same subject as yesterday shoving bottles of alcohol into his backpack. Store employees attempted to recover the alcohol and a struggle over the backpack ensued. The suspect then dropped the bottles, breaking one and then tried to flee out of the front door, however the employees had locked the front door. The employees tried to restrain him and he fled out the back door. The suspect, a 24 year old male from Richmond, was located on the BART trail near Schmidt Lane. He was identified via in field show up. His jacket, which he abandoned, was located on the corner of Portola Dr / BART path (with his wallet still in the pocket.) The male was on probation for battery on a police officer and possession of stolen property. He was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Arrest for Shoplifting – 11450 San Pablo Ave
At approximately 1156 hours, an El Cerrito police officer responded to the report of a shoplifter in custody at Safeway. A 26 year old female from Richmond, was placed under citizen’s arrest for shoplifting by store security. She also had a misdemeanor warrant. She was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
Warrant – San Pablo Ave / Plumas Ave:
At 2318 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 44 year old man from Richmond on a Contra Costa County warrant associated with an El Cerrito case. He was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
DUI – Stockton Ave / Pomona Ave:
At 0258 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the 43 year old driver from El Cerrito for DUI. She was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
January 24th
Strong Arm Robbery – 900 block Seaview Drive:
An officer responded to John Muir after staff notified ECPD a victim sought treatment for injuries sustained on 1/22/16 between 1900 and 1930 hours. The victim was approached from behind as she walked up the driveway of the residence. She was struck by Suspect-1 and fell to the ground where she was hit and kicked several times. Suspect-2 demanded the victim’s wallet. The suspects removed the victim’s jewelry and fled. The victim was only able to describe Suspect-1 as a white female, approximately 30 years old, 5-10, 200, dark hair, and dark clothing. The victim thought Suspect-2 was a male but unable to provide any additional description.
DUI – San Pablo Ave / Cutting Blvd:
At 0521 hours, officers responded to a driver slumped over the wheel and located a 28 year old man from Richmond passed out in his vehicle inebriated. He was arrested for DUI, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
January 25th
Domestic Battery-11400 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 0704 hours, officers responded to the area after the victim ran to a nearby business and asked the employees to call the police. Officers contacted the victim and discovered the victim was slapped and punched by a 27 year old male from Richmond who she had been in a previous dating relationship. They male, who was still on scene was taken into custody and transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. The female had redness to her face and declined medical assistance. Officers provide the victim with a domestic violence pamphlet. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Possession of a Controlled Substance- Hill St.@ BART path
At 1029 hours, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 38 year old female from San Pablo for being in possession of 28 acetaminophen and codeine pills. After booking, she was released on a citation.
January 26th
Stolen Vehicle- 800 Block of Richmond St.
An officer was dispatched to report of a stolen vehicle. An unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1992 Toyota Camry. The vehicle was later located in the 500 block of Colusa Ave. The theft occurred between 1/25@1900-1/26@0816 hours.
Stolen Vehicle- 500 Block of Richmond St.
An officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s green 4-door 1994 Toyota Camry. The theft occurred between 1/25@2100-1/26@0845 hours.
Stolen Vehicle Recovered- Knott Ave. west of San Pablo Ave.
A citizen called and reported a male and female just parked the victim’s 1992 Honda Civic in the area. The female and male were last seen going toward Sketchers. Dispatch conducted a records check of the license plate given by the citizen and discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen to San Rafael PD on 1/25. Officers responded to the scene and circulated for the male and female and did not locate them. An officer processed the vehicle for evidence and located items with evidentiary value.
Warrant Arrest- 1000 El Cerrito Plaza
At 1121 hours, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop on a suspicious male. During a records check, the officer discovered the 60 year old transient male had an outstanding warrant out of Santa Clara County. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. After booking, the male was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Petty Theft- 4010 El Cerrito Plaza
At 1244 hours, an officer reported a male and female entered AT&T and stole 2 phone batteries from the display case.
Possession of Lost Property- 10650 San Pablo Ave.
At 1516 hours, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 47 year old female from El Sobrante for being in possession of a credit card that she claimed to have found. During booking, the officer determined the female was under the influence of a controlled substance.
January 27th
Auto Burglary-6500 Block of Portola Dr.
An officer reported an unknown suspect smashed the window of the victim’s vehicle and stole $30 in change. The burglary occurred between 1/26@1800-1/27@0640 hours.

An officer reported an unknown suspect smashed the window of the victim’s vehicle and rummaged through the glove compartment and center console. No property loss was reported. The burglary occurred between 1/26@1600-1/27@0735 hours.

An officer reported an unknown suspect smashed the window of the victim’s vehicle and rummage through the vehicle. No property loss was reported. The theft occurred between 1/26@1800-1/27@0725 hours.

An officer reported an unknown suspect smashed the window of the victim’s vehicle and rummaged through the interior of the vehicle. Unknown property loss at this time. The burglary occurred between 1/26@1800-0745 hours.
Auto Burglary-1600 Block of Lexington Ave.
An officer reported an unknown suspect smashed the window of the victim’s vehicle and rummaged through the center console and glove compartment. No property loss was reported. The burglary occurred in between 1/26@1435-1/27@0745 hours.
Petty Theft-11565 San Pablo Ave.
At 1310 hours, officers were dispatched to a report of a male in the store concealing items in his backpack. While officers were en route dispatch advised the suspect fled towards the Del Norte BART station. An officer located the 19 year old male from Hercules. The male was identified as the responsible. After booking at the El Cerrito Police Department, the male was released on a citation.
Petty Theft/Warrant Arrest-11450 San Pablo Ave.
At 1517 hours, officers were dispatched to a report of a male inside the store concealing items in his backpack. While officers were en-route, dispatch advised the male left northbound from the store. Officers located the 53 year old male from Richmond on the BART path at Hill St. The male was found to be in possession several packages of meat items and cosmetics from the store. After the male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Residential Burglary- 7300 Block of Lynn Ave.
An officer reported an unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence via an unlocked back door and removed property. The burglary occurred between 1130-1600 hours.
Warrant Arrest- 11450 San Pablo Ave.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a male inside the store concealing batteries in his pockets. The suspect fled the store while officers were responding to the location. An officer located the 54 year old male transient on the BART path@ Hill St. A record check revealed the male had an outstanding warrant. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
January 28th
Warrant Arrest- 10900 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 1614 hours, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop on a 28 year old female from Richmond. During a records check, the officer discovered the female had an outstanding warrant. The female was taken into custody and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. After booking, the female was released on a citation.
Stolen Vehicle Recovered- Everett St. and Stockton Ave.
At 1958 hours, an officer located a stolen 1994 Toyota Corolla which had been stolen from in front of a residence in El Cerrito 3 days earlier.
Petty Theft/Warrant Arrest-1000 San Pablo Ave.
At 2003 hours, a 27 year old male from San Francisco was detained by loss prevention staff for shoplifting. The man was placed under citizen’s arrest and found to have 3 warrants for his arrest. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
Battery-10650 San Pablo Ave.
At 2008 hours, a BMA entered the business and may have concealed merchandise in his clothing. As the male attempted to exit, store staff attempted to block his path and confront him about the merchandise. The male shoved staff out of the way and continued out of the store.
Domestic Battery-900 Block of Kearney St.
At 2125 hours, officers responded to a residence for a report of an instance of domestic battery. Officers contacted a 39 year old male and determined he had pushed his ex-wife during an argument. The couple’s 7 year old son had also witnessed the event. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. A firearm was recovered from the residence and was stored for safe keeping.
