Alert

Mayor Mark Sokolich has declared a State of Emergency for the Borough of Fort Lee.

Good Afternoon

This is Mayor Mark Sokolich of the Borough Fort Lee.

The current severe winter storm has already dropped over 12" of snow upon Fort Lee with heavy snow expected to finally taper off around 11:00PM this evening...thereafter heavy winds and light snow will continue until the early morning with total accumulations expected to range from 18" to 24".

In light of the severity of this storm I have taken the following steps:

          1.       Effective 1:00PM this afternoon, I have declared the Borough of Fort Lee to be in a State of Emergency until further notice. In light of this declaration there shall be no vehicles permitted to use our roadways except for our emergency service agencies and the Department of Public Works.  Non-emergent travel will only disrupt response time by our first responders and crews, and will place you and our personnel at risk.....Governor Christie has also declared a State of Emergency for the entire State of New Jersey imposing the same restrictions on State roadways.

          2.       Until all streets are cleared our emergency service agencies will remain on the highest levels of alert to ensure your safety;   I have also directed that all available resources of the Borough remain deployed and our Department of Public Works has been and will continue to clear all local streets on a 24-hour per day basis until all roadways are passable and safe.  Additional emergency personnel have likewise been authorized and deployed to ensure your safety.

All Hudson River crossings, including the George Washington Bridge, will be closed as of 2:30 PM until further notice due to high winds and anticipated snow accumulations.

Please do not park or in any way block any roadway which is designated as a  snow emergency street as these roadways must remain open for clear and safe passage by our first responders.  Once the State of Emergency has been lifted and a Fort Lee resident is in need of a parking space please utilize any of our municipal parking lots....I have suspended all meters during the storm and its aftermath.  For a complete listing of snow emergency streets and municipal parking lots, please refer to our municipal Websites which I will provide at the conclusion of this message.

As I have requested in the past, if possible please check in with your neighbors, family members, friends and, in particular, seniors and those residents in need of special assistance....as a unified community we are all safer and more secure

I ask that all residents monitor local television news reports, radio reports [such as 1010 or Fort Lee’s own emergency radio band which 1630AM] and also refer to the following web sites for important messages and periodic updates....especially in the event of power outages:
