Advisory

Winter Storm Intensified - 15-25" of Snow Now Expected

The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through 7AM on Sunday, January 24th.  This storm has intensified and is now expected to bring 15-25” of snow to our area.  Winds remain strong at 10-40MPH, with gusts up to 55 MPH, although the stronger wind speeds will be along the coasts.  The combination of snow and winds has resulted in blizzard conditions in our area.  Visibility will be very limited and at times will be less than one-quarter of a mile.

This is a dangerous storm.  We strongly urge you to stay where you are and stay warm.  Stay off of the roadways unless you have a true emergency.  Even those who have four-wheel drive, and think that they are skilled drivers, will likely experience significant challenges, will interfere with the efforts of our Highway Department, or will become involved in a motor vehicle accident.  Unnecessary travel can result in your taxing the emergency service providers and possibly delay them from responding to a true emergency.

Governor Cuomo has issued a state of emergency for areas impacted by the storm. The state of emergency applies to New York City, as well as Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties.  Additionally, there is a travel ban for New York City, as well as state roadways in the affected area.

The storm may also result in fallen trees and utility wires.  As always, treat all downed wires as if they are live and stay away from them.  Report fallen wires and trees to the North Castle Police Department at 914-273-9500.
