Roads are dangerous, visibility decreased. Please stay off roadways. Give DPW snowplows a chance to clear the roadways.
The Blizzard of 2016 has begun and with the daylight hours, some people may be inclined to leave their homes or travel. Due to the snowfall rate, roadways are dangerous and plows are having a tough time keeping up with snow removal. The Denville Police Department and the Denville DPW are out in full force. Please stay off the roadways in order to allow for the snow to be cleared and to avoid an accident.
Here are some Denville Township Ordinances dealing with snow emergencies and snow removal that we ask everyone to follow. Failure to adhere to the ordinances could result in receiving a summons with a mandatory court appearance and a fine. These ordinances are in place to ensure the safety of our emergency workers and to allow for all snow removal to occur quickly and efficiently;
1. There is no parking on any street in Denville, at any time, when the streets are snow covered. Denville Police may ticket and tow your vehicle if it is left for any amount of time on the roadway.
2. No one may deposit snow onto any roadway, either by way of shoveling, snow thrower or snow plow. If you inadvertently place snow onto the roadway, you must immediately remove it. You cannot rely on the municipal snow plows to remove the snow. Placing the snow into a berm alongside a roadway may cause the narrowing of a lane and become dangerous. All snow should remain on your property.
3. Any sidewalks adjacent to your property must be cleared of snow and ice within 12 hours after the end of a storm. You must remove snow at a curve where there is a ramp to allow people access to and egress from the sidewalk.
Although we understand that everyone wants to remove the snow from their driveway and sidewalks as soon as possible, please respect the snow plow drivers who may pass your house and block your driveway or walkway. The snowplow operators are under direction from the Township Administration to remove all snow from the roadways from road edge to road edge and then continue until the blacktop is clear. It may take them longer to achieve that then the amount of time it takes you to clear just your driveway. Having patience with the snowplow operators will allow them to do a much better job which will result is cleaner and safer roadway.
If you have an emergency during the storm, please call 9-1-1 immediately. If you have a non-emergency question, please contact the Denville Police Department Dispatcher at 973-627-4900, ext. 9.
