SMPD Community and Media Alert - UPDATE 5:45 AM

On 1-20-16 at about 0245, SMPD responded to a report of at least one prowler with a flashlight who was trying to break into an occupied home on Green Oak Court.  The victim remained on the line as officers responded, reporting that the suspect had broken into a side gate and was now forcing entry to the home.  Officers arrived on scene and immediately encountered a female suspect nearby who attempted to flee the scene. The female in her attempt to escape deliberately drove her vehicle at a responding officer who was approaching on foot, forcing the officer to discharge his firearm in defense of his life.  Neither the female suspect or officer were injured and the female was safely taken into custody a few moments later.

SMPD is still on scene and has secured the area to search for a second outstanding male suspect believed to now be hiding in the area.  Residents in and around the area are being asked to shelter in place as a precaution while the search continues.  SMPD is working quickly to remedy the situation and clear the area before the commute hour.  Thank you for your patience.

SMPD will issue an all clear message as soon as possible.  Please monitor Nixle on our webpage and Twitter for additional information with updates to follow.
