Recent telephone scam activity directed toward a Washington resident reported to have dire legal activity pending.

A local resident reports family members receiving a call from a party saying that he has some legal difficulties that he needs to resolve quickly, then provides a case number and instructions to call another number. Over the last few weeks and days the calls have gone to the resident's mother, sister and ex-brother-in-law.

The calls come from 603-758-3126, and instructions are to call 866-358-2358. A check of databases reveals several reports of this same activity from these numbers.

If you receive a similar call asking for information on a family member with dire legal problems, please feel free to have them call your relative at 603-495-3294 (just don't tell them that's the police department, we'll be happy to provide that information when they call!)

This a good reminder to be careful what you post on social media. It does not take much for a professional scammer, and hobbyist to learn a lot about you from Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and all the other sources. If you or your family receive similar calls, please notify the police department.
