Fire Alarm Monitoring Change

The Sun Prairie Police Department (SNPD) Communications Center currently serves as an answering point for fire alarm companies that monitor local businesses. This letter is to inform you of a procedural change that will alter this process and impact the safety of your business.

On February 1, 2016, with the support of the Sun Prairie Fire Department, the Sun Prairie Police Department Communications Center will transfer all fire dispatch responsibilities to the Dane County Public Safety Communications Center (DCPSC). This change will provide a more consistent, efficient, and streamlined dispatching process for both citizens and the business community of Sun Prairie and surrounding townships.

The owner or responsible party for any Fire Alarm Systems, which are monitored by a fire alarm monitoring company within the Sun Prairie Fire Department response area, will need to contact their alarm company representative to ensure required changes are made immediately.

By January 29, 2016 it is CRITICAL that all fire alarm systems, within the Sun Prairie Fire Department response area, have their monitoring company call 608.266.4920 (DCPSC) upon receipt of an alarm signal. Failure to comply is a violation of the State Fire Code and will ultimately result in a delay of fire department or emergency services notification and response.

In the meantime, should you have any questions or concerns, the Sun Prairie Communications Center Staff is in place 24 hours a day and can assist you.

Sincerely,

Patrick Anhalt
Police Chief
