Warming Centers made available in Madison County if needed.

The Madison County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency in coordination with the United Way of Madison County and COAD would like to announce the official warming centers of Madison County.  The National Weather Service of Indianapolis has forecast temperatures near zero with wind chills -10 to -25F. In the event someone needs a temporary location to escape the cold temperatures, warming centers are being made available in Madison County.  Please see the list below along with instructions for each facility.

Salvation Army 9 AM - 5 PM1615 Meridian St., Anderson  (765) 644-2538

Community Hospital - Anderson 8 PM - 8 AM
Citizens wishing to seek shelter at Community should enter the Emergency Department entrance and check-in with Security in the lobby.  The Security officer will escort them to the designated room.  Please use Community’s Main hospital phone number for dispatch, public safety staff, and informational postings, (765) 298-4242.
 
St. Vincent Anderson
St.Vincent Anderson Regional is prepared to assist individuals who need a warm place this winter.  During dangerously cold temperatures, if someone needs a place to get warm, they should go to our Emergency Room entrance and ask for Security.  Security will then make appropriate arrangements for them.  (765) 649-2511
 
St. Vincent Mercy - Daytime and Overnight
St. Vincent Mercy Elwood is available for area residents seeking a warming center. They should go to the Emergency and state you are there for a warming center and you will be directed from there.  Call (765)552-4600 if you wish to notify them prior to your arrival.

Warming Center vs. Emergency Shelter
A warming center is a drop-in area for residents to visit during cold temperatures.  No registration is required.  Typically, only seating is available.
 
An emergency shelter provides a temporary living space for individual in need of emergency housing.  Registration is required.  Typically, sleeping areas and meals are provided.

 

If citizens have questions about the warming centers they are welcome to contact the nearest warming center.  For assistance with transportation, please contact the Madison County Consolidated Communications Center at (765) 642-0221 or dial 211 for the Indiana 211 Partnership.
