Advisory

Sheriff Donny Youngblood and deputies are happy to participate in local school reading event for elementary students.

On Monday, January 11th Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood joins Kern County Sheriff deputies along with officers from the Bakersfield Police Department at Hort Elementary School as a special guest of honor for a school reading event. Youngblood, accompanied by Sgt. Jackie Newell, Deputy Paul Sanchez, and Deputy Cassie Fernandez, represented the Sheriff’s Office as students read books to local law enforcement deputies. Staff and teachers at Hort Elementary school work tirelessly year round to inspire and encourage kids to find pleasure in reading and in reading more often – thus creating this special day in which kids could read to celebrity guests. This interactive experience not only gave the elementary school students (ages kindergarten to 5th grade) a chance to read to a guest and to take pride in one’s reading abilities; it also gave students one-on-one time in a relaxed, friendly environment to talk and get to know their local law enforcement.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit regularly accepts requests for school events and is committed to engaging the youth of Kern County with deputies in the most positive and encouraging manner.
