At approximately 4:00 pm on January 7, 2016, Fairfield Police Dispatch received a call from an auto dealership in the 2800 block of Auto Mall Parkway regarding a man with a gun. Officers from the Fairfield Police Special Operations Team and Patrol Division responded to the scene. The caller told dispatch that a man and his wife were in the middle of attempting to purchase a vehicle when the man displayed a handgun that was in his waistband. The caller said the man placed the gun on a desk; however not in a threatening manner.
Officers approached the man and his wife and immediately detained them inside the dealership without incident. A loaded SigSauer .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun was removed from the man's waistband. A loaded Springfield XD40 .40 caliber handgun was located inside the mans backpack. Officers also found approximately 1 gram of suspected cocaine inside his pants pocket.
Arrested was 38 year old David Phillips, a Fairfield resident. His wife was released at the scene. Phillips was carrying the loaded firearms illegally; he did not possess any concealed carry credentials. Phillips was booked into Solano County Jail on Felony weapons and narcotic charges.
The quick actions and calm demeanor of the dealership employees are credited with the safe end to this situation. The public's assistance is key in working together with Law Enforcement to make our City a safer place then the day before.
