A 24 year old Barstow man is arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after attempting to ram various patrol units

DATE/TIME: ​January 04, 2016, at 5:11 pm​​

INCIDENT:​PC245 Assault with a Deadly Weapon

LOCATION:​ Jasper Rd. in Barstow, Ca.​

SUSPECT(S): James Paul Richardson, age 24, a resident of Barstow


VICTIM(S): ​ Sylvia Bowron, age 69 ​

SUMMARY: ​On Monday, January 04, 2016, Deputy Woods of the Barstow Sheriff’s Station attempted to stop a black colored Chevy Suburban for no license plate on Jasper Road. The driver of the suburban failed to yield and tried to ram the patrol car. The driver sped away through a residential neighborhood with speeds reaching 60 mph.

The driver continued north to the Mojave River where it entered the dry river bottom then continued eastbound for approximately 8.5 miles and crossed under Interstate 40 Freeway. The pursuit continued through residential neighborhoods in the City of Barstow where speeds reached 70 mph. The driver of the suburban also attempted to ram marked law enforcement patrol cars in the Walmart parking lot.

The pursuit ended when the driver crashed into another car at the corner of Armory Road and Muriel Drive. The driver of the second car was transported to Barstow Community Hospital for complaint of pain to her wrist. When the Suburban crashed, the driver, James Richardson, was not injured and exited the suburban then ran toward Stater Brothers Market. California Highway Patrol Officers, who were assisting, took Richardson into custody. During a search near Richardson, a white baggie of suspected Methamphetamine was found.

Sheriff’s Aviation Division, California Highway Patrol and Barstow Police assisted in the pursuit and investigation.

James Paul Richardson was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and bail was set at $110, 000.00
