Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 12-22-15 at 8:30 a.m., an employee at the Uniqlo store at the Serramonte Shopping Center flagged down an officer regarding a theft that just occurred. The employee said a customer tried to use a credit card to purchase items, but the card didn’t work. The customer told the employee he was just going to take the items and fled the store. With the help of the Serramonte Center security, the subject was detained and was positively identified by the employee. Subsequent to the suspect’s arrest, the officer took an inventory of the suspect’s belongings and found a payroll check from Walnut Creek Honda belonging to someone else. The subject said it was his friend’s check. Officers called the owner of the check, and the owner said he put the check under his keyboard after remotely “depositing” it into his bank. Our officers subsequently found out the suspect was suspected of burglarizing the Walnut Creek Honda. The suspect, a 24-year old Danville resident, was cited for petty theft and for possession of stolen property. Walnut Creek P.D. detectives picked up the subject at our station and took custody of the subject.

On Tuesday, 12-22-15 at 9:00 a.m., a residence on the 200 block of Dennis Drive was burglarized. About a half hour later, San Francisco P.D. officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by two subjects. Subsequent investigation revealed that the occupants were the burglars of the home. All of the stolen property was recovered and the two subjects, 18 and 19-year old San Francisco residents, were arrested for burglary, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property. It should be noted that a key witness was a neighbor who wrote down the license plate of the vehicle.

On Wednesday, 12-23-15 at 2:56 a.m., Officer Bonnie Shiu contacted the sleeping occupants of an illegally parked vehicle at the Chevron Gas station market on John Daly Boulevard. Officer Shiu woke up the female in the driver’s seat and a male in the passenger seat and determined they were both on court probation. Officers searched the vehicle which subsequently resulted in the arrest of the female, a 24-year old Walnut Creek resident, for identity theft, possession of stolen property, possession of altered/forged access cards and for possession of drug paraphernalia. The male subject, a 21-year old Hayward resident, was arrested for identity theft, possession of stolen property, possession of forged/altered access cards and for possession of a burglary tool.

On Thursday, 12-24-15 at 3:42 p.m., officers responded to the unit block of Hillside Boulevard on a report of a minor injury hit and run traffic collision. The victim pulled over to the side of the road, and the suspect vehicle drove away from the scene. The driver, a 31-year old Daly City resident, was arrested later for the charge of hit and run.

On Thursday, 12-24-15 at 4:32 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Bellevue Avenue and Crocker Avenue on a report of a subject being detained by two citizens for vandalizing a vehicle. The reporting party said she looked out her window and saw a subject who was walking slowly and laughing as he was trying to scratch the passenger door of a parked car. The reporting party said she saw the subject vandalize five cars. The reporting party’s husband ran after the subject and was able to detain him until police arrived. The subject, a 27-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for felony vandalism. The estimated damage to the five vehicles is approximately $10,000.

On Thursday, 12-24-15 at 6:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Serramonte Shopping Center on a report of a robbery that occurred ten minutes prior. The victim, a 32-year old San Francisco resident, said he withdrew money from the Bank of America ATM at the Serramonte Shopping Center. He said after he took out the money, a black male pushed him aside before he could successfully close out of his account. The victim said he tried to press the cancellation button and the suspect swatted away his arm. The victim was able to provide a description of the subject, and the mall security saw the subjects running from the mall and into a vehicle. Officers were able to stop the vehicle occupied by a male and female subject who both provided false names to the officers. The male subject, a 25-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for attempted robbery, providing false information to a police officer, delaying a police officer, conspiracy to commit a crime and for an outstanding warrant. The female subject, a 30-year old San Francisco resident, was also arrested for the same charges, with the exception of a warrant.

On Friday, 12-25-15 at 5:29 a.m., a 37-year old Pacifica resident said he was walking from an apartment on Kent Court to a residence on Callan Boulevard when he was approached by two subjects. One subject said “I know you” and began punching him on the head and face. The victim said the suspect stopped beating him and left, returning approximately 5-10 minutes later to try to take his wallet. Officers found a subject in the area and determined he was in possession of the victim’s cell phone. The victim positively identified the subject, a 24-year old Daly City resident. The subject was arrested for robbery and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine). The victim sustained a contusion to the left side of his head, an abrasion on his right elbow and pain to the same areas.

On Saturday, 12-26-15 at 11:02 p.m., two employees of the Habit Burger Grill were victims of a robbery via handgun by two unknown Hispanic males wearing all black clothing and hoods over their heads. Another employee was the victim of an assault with a deadly weapon when one of the suspects pushed the gun into the back of his head. The suspects stole cash. This investigation is continuing.

On Sunday, 12-27-15 at 10:20 p.m., Officer Mario Busalacchi stopped a vehicle with expired registration containing four occupants at First Avenue and East Market Street. The officer smelled a distinct odor of marijuana from inside of the vehicle. Because the driver, a 34-year old San Francisco resident, was on parole, officers conducted a search of the vehicle, as well as the driver. The officers asked a passenger to step out of the vehicle and smelled marijuana coming from his person. Officers asked that passenger, a 24-year old San Francisco resident, if he had anything illegal on his person, and he informed them that he had some marijuana in his pocket, saying he had a medical marijuana card and that he worked for a medical marijuana dispensary. Another passenger, a 29-year old Richmond resident, was asked to step out of the vehicle. Officers asked her if she had anything illegal on her person, and she said she had a knife. That passenger also had a driver's license not belonging to her in her pocket. The passenger said the driver's license was her mother’s, however, the date of birth and the fact that the passenger couldn’t pronounce her “mothers” name rose suspicion with the officer. Officers determined that the 24-year old passenger committed at least one armed robbery in San Francisco, and he was released to the custody of the San Francisco Police Department. The female passenger was booked for possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of identification with the intent to defraud and possession of a forged debit card.

Daly City Public Library Offers Food for Fines Program for Patrons

The Daly City Public Library is participating in the 2015 Food for Fines Program from November 16 through December 31, 2015. Under this program, patrons can “pay off” their accrued fines for overdue library materials by making a donation of non-perishable food items.

The Daly City Public Library has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank, San Mateo County Library, Redwood City Library, San Mateo Public Library and South San Francisco Public Library to offer this simple amnesty program to allow patrons to “pay off” library fines by donating food to those in need. Patrons can give to the community and get their library record back in good standing at the same time.
Combined efforts last year resulted in a collection of 35,252 pounds of food and 5,475 library accounts cleared. Second Harvest Food Bank estimated that 25 pounds of food will feed one family for a week. Food is provided free of charge to 326 local non-profit agencies at more than 700 sites, including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and after-school programs.

Monetary donations can be made directly by visiting Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties at www.shfb.org.

Nextdoor.com

This is a free private social network for you, your neighbors and your community which allows you to talk to your neighbors on line. This, in turn, People use Nextdoor for many reasons: to quickly get the word out about crimes in the area, organize a Neighborhood Watch Group, track down a trustworthy babysitter, find referrals for businesses, looking for lost pets, finding new homes for unwanted items (furniture, bicycles, etc.), and many other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. There is a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
