Mountain Lion Sighting

On December 28, 2015, at 1006 hours, a citizen called the El Cerrito Police Department to report the sighting of mountain lion in the area of Potrero Avenue and the Hillside Nature Area. The mountain lion was not showing any aggressive behaviors and was last seen running into the nature area. Responding officers circulated the area, but were unable to locate the mountain lion. Animal control and the Department of Fish and Wildlife were also notified of the sighting.

Wildlife sightings are often enjoyed by residents of El Cerrito, as we live close to Wildcat Canyon. If you should encounter a mountain lion, remember to make yourself appear large, maintain eye contact, make noise and slowly create distance. If anyone can safely capture an image of a mountain lion, please send photos to the ECPD so they can be forwarded to the Department of Fish and Wildlife for further research.
