DATE / TIME: Friday, December 25, 2015 / 1:44 PM

LOCATION: 1500 block of Cordova St., Pomona Ca.

CRIME: 187 PC – Homicide

VICTIM: Jane Doe, 41 years old female, Pomona Resident (Name being withheld until next of kin can be notified)

SUSPECT: Clarence Duwell Dear, 51 year old male, Pomona resident

SUSPECT VEHICLE: N/A

UNIT: Investigative Services Division

NARRATIVE: On December 25, 2015, at approximately 1:44 PM, officers were called to the 1500 block of Cordova St. after reports of a person who had been set on fire. Neighbors who saw the victim run from the residence engulfed in flames rendered assistance as she collapsed on the street and remained with her until LA County Fire personnel arrived. The victim was treated for severe burns and was transported to a local hospital where she died shortly thereafter as a result of her injuries.

Pomona Police Department Homicide Detectives responded and are currently investigating this incident. Preliminary information suggests that the suspect and victim became involved in a heated argument that escalated to physical violence. It appears that during a domestic dispute, the suspect chased the victim from their residence and was able to douse the victim with gasoline. The suspect then ignited the victim, possibly with a lit cigarette. The victim collapsed in the street and the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction; he has not been seen or heard from since.

It is unclear as to whether or not the suspect fled the area on foot or by another means of transportation. Although there is no information to suggest that he was armed with a firearm at the time of the murder, he is still considered to be extremely dangerous.

Pomona Police detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect in this case. Anyone with information as to Dear's whereabouts is urged to call either their local police agency, the Pomona Police Department, or by calling 911.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Pomona Police Department at 909-620-2085. If tipsters prefer to provide information anonymously, they may call "Crime Stoppers" at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or call Pomona PD dispatch at (909) 622-1241.
