As part of a proactive response to the increased package thefts during the holiday season, the El Cerrito Police Department has increased its patrol in residential areas. Uniformed officers, reserve police officers and plain clothes officers are part of a directed enforcement project to apprehend package theft suspects.

On December 11th, at 1534 hours, plain clothes officers in an unmarked vehicle spotted a suspicious vehicle near the intersections of Barrett Avenue and Tamalpais Avenue. Officers monitored the vehicle as it slowly drove around and stopped at various locations. During the surveillance operation, the occupants from the suspect vehicle discarded several opened Amazon boxes in the middle of the street. Uniformed personnel were dispatched to the area and ultimately stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Key Boulevard and Conlon Avenue.

Officers contacted the occupants and found they were in possession of the contents of the stolen Amazon packages, burglary tools, a realistic looking pellet gun along with a ski mask. Officers arrested the driver, Anthony Kerman (27 years of age) from El Cerrito who was in possession of methamphetamine and wanted for a parole violation warrant, Robert Springer (35) and Marie Concepcion (21) who are both from Richmond. Springer was in possession of several auto burglary tools and Concepcion was in possession of numerous persons personal identifying information.

All three individuals were booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

The El Cerrito Police Department wants to remind all residents to remain vigilant and report all suspicious activities to the ECPD at 510-233-1214
