Film students cause 101 fwy closure after calls of armed suspects on ped bridge @LHSLASD

November 29, 2015 - At approximately 5:00 pm, the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station received information from the California Highway Patrol Dispatch regarding two men standing on the overpass of the 101 Freeway with a rifle. At least ten motorists had contacted 911 reporting the men with firearms standing over the freeway, feeling threatened that the pair intended to cause harm.

Several CHP and Sheriff’s units immediately responded and located the two men standing on the Cheseboro Road pedestrian overpass, one dressed in military-style fatigues and appeared to be carrying an assault-type rifle.

With multiple units from both the CHP and Sheriff’s, the area was contained and the 101 freeway was temporarily shut down, in an effort to ensure the safety of the public. With the assistance of a Sheriff’s helicopter, the two suspects were instructed over the public address system to walk with their hands up and towards the waiting law enforcement officers.

The suspects were found in possession of a replica assault rifle, replica handgun, military uniforms, cameras and a gas mask. Both were cooperative and stated that they were filming for a school project.

“While the intentions of these two individuals might have been harmless,” stated Captain Patrick S. Davoren of the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, “the fact that anyone would appear in a public place displaying a replica firearm is troubling. These two men put themselves and our community at risk. This does reflect the fast actions of our community in notifying law enforcement and reminds everyone that if they see something, they should say something.”

The two were arrested and booked at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lost Hills Station on multiple charges including the displaying a replica firearm and causing a false emergency.
